A look at martial influences between East and West Artistic martial demonstrations with commentary by ELAA - Followed by lightsaber initiation sessions

The martial encounter between Japan and Europe is rather recent, with the Portuguese discovering and opening a trading post in the 16th century (1543), not without difficulty. The confrontation between Western and Eastern weapons was to Japan’s disadvantage. A few centuries later, after the horrors of the Second World War, it was the West that was deeply influenced by Japanese martial creativity, which even became the artistic model for creations such as Star Wars. A journey through history and lightsabers…

The presentation is divided into two parts:

1 - Combat and technical differences between Portuguese and Japanese martial arts in the mid-16th century. The rapier and the harquebus.

2 - The influence of the saber tradition on Star Wars combat.
